Eight lessons on restaurants, weddings, holidays and Sunday lunch at the family table, covering what to order for a smaller appetite and what to say when somebody asks why you are eating so little.
Eight lessons. One long table. Meals out that stay about the food.
The trouble with eating out is rarely the food. It is the side plate going back half full, the relative at the family table who counts what you have eaten, the wedding with a set menu, and the holiday kitchen with nothing familiar in it.
This course walks through the ordinary occasions one at a time. Reading a menu for a small appetite, ordering from the starters, sitting through Sunday lunch at somebody else's house, getting through a wedding or a long day out, and what to keep in your bag when the day overruns. There are words here for the question, and permission to answer it briefly.
Women in the first months: dreading the next meal eaten in company.
Anyone with a full calendar: weddings, work lunches and holidays booked in.
Women in close families: where every plate is noticed and mentioned.
